Our limits

What We Do Not Take On

We work on residential garage doors, springs, openers, tracks, and panels. That's the job. We don't do commercial overhead doors, gate systems, or fence work, and if your door is part of a larger storefront or warehouse setup, we'll tell you that up front instead of taking the call and figuring it out later.

Old doors not worth saving

We also don't pretend every door is worth saving. A lot of the housing stock around here went up between 1938 and 2003, with the bulk of it dating to the 1980s and 90s across the five main residential pockets in our service area.

Previously replaced door hardware

A door and opener from that era has usually been through one or two replacements already, and sometimes the math just doesn't work - a cracked panel on a 30-year-old steel door, paired with an opener that's already on its second circuit board, is a replacement job, not a repair ticket.

Special order part timelines

We'll say so rather than patch something that's going to fail again in six months. One honest limit: if a part needs to be special-ordered for an older or uncommon door, we can't promise same-week turnaround. We'll give you a real timeline once we know what we're dealing with, not a guess to get the call.

Quick answers

Plain Answers

Sparks sits in a cold-climate zone with hard winters, and that matters more for garage doors than people expect. Cold snaps stiffen torsion springs, shrink seals, and make weak rollers and worn cables fail faster than they would in a mild climate. If your door has been slow or noisy before a cold stretch, it's worth a look before it quits on you, not after.

Most of the houses we see were built somewhere in that 1938-2003 range, median right around 1989, which means a wide mix of door types and opener generations. Older torsion setups, early-generation chain-drive openers, and a handful of original doors are all still in service across the area's owner-occupied homes. We carry parts and know-how for that spread, but we won't claim a part is in stock if it isn't - we'll check and tell you straight.

We price and schedule jobs plainly: no runaround, no upsell script. If a spring job is a spring job, that's what we quote.

Where We Work

A brown garage door is on a stucco house with a tiled roof.

We're based at 5050 Vista Blvd in Sparks, NV, and we work throughout the surrounding area - across roughly 18,000 households and close to 11,800 owner-occupied houses in the region we cover.

That includes Sun Valley, about 4 miles out, Spanish Springs at 6 miles, and Mira Loma just southwest at about the same distance. We also take calls from Verdi, 15 miles west, Cold Springs at 16 miles, Virginia City at 19 miles, and the Virginia Foothills area about 12 miles south. If you're in one of these areas and your door's acting up, call 1-775-206-0298.

We don't cover every town in northern Nevada, and we're not going to claim otherwise. If you're well outside this stretch, give us a call anyway - we'll tell you straight whether it makes sense for us to come out.

Questions

Common questions

Do you work on older garage doors, not just new installs?

Yes. A good share of the doors we see are on houses built well before 2000, some going back to 1938. We carry parts and experience for older torsion and chain-drive setups, though a few very old or uncommon doors may need a special-ordered part, which affects turnaround.

Does cold weather actually affect garage doors here?

It does. Sparks sits in a cold, severe-winter climate band, and cold temperatures stiffen springs, shrink weatherseals, and stress rollers and cables. If your door has been sluggish or noisy, a cold snap is often what pushes a weak part into failure.

How far from Sparks do you go for calls?

We cover the surrounding area including Sun Valley, Spanish Springs, Mira Loma, Verdi, Cold Springs, Virginia City, and the Virginia Foothills. Distances range from about 4 to 19 miles out from Sparks. Call 1-775-206-0298 and we'll tell you plainly if a job is in range.

Will you always recommend a repair over replacement?

No. Given how much of the local housing stock dates to the 1980s and 90s, a lot of doors and openers we see have already had one or two prior fixes. When a repair doesn't make sense next to the age of the door, we'll say so instead of patching it.
